Hi guys,

Today i started a new job in my Leica CS15 Viva controller. The previous job i had open had a WGS84 coordinate system selected as i was doing some GPS work.

The new job then was created with the same coordinate system selected as i forgot to change it. I did a days work in the field with a total station doing an identification survey (wanted to read ground distances).

I only just noticed the WGS84 coordinate system was selected after i had done the work.

Has this coordinate system scaled my ground distances? Im not sure how it works in the CS15...

Thanks for your help!

?ÿ

Raw data is raw data, so it should be fine.?ÿ That said, I know that Leica, thinking that they're smarter than the average bear, does some strange things.?ÿ

I'm more used to the others, SurvCE and Survey Pro, where no matter what you do, the raw data is permanent and unaffected.?ÿ With Smartworx, I once deleted a point, and then the software deleted all the shots I'd taken from that setup.?ÿ In my opinion this shouldn't happen, and raw data sections shouldn't just disappear, as it's a record of what you've been doing.

So, beware when working with Leica.?ÿ I'd definitely check a few things

@JPH You may find that the raw data was still in there, but the software eg LGO didn't extract it.

I have this with "Measure Sets". If you exit the application improperly the measured data does not come through in the DBX. It is still stored though with the "Application" marker blank. Starnet DBX converter would then ignore it (and other data under certain specific circumstances). I access it directly from the XML file now (using a program I have written myself) and can control how it extracts the data.

Thanks for your replies guys!

I actually just had a look in the technical reference manual and actually found the answer i was looking for.

It seems that it does not matter what coordinate system you have selected when you are using TPS...

"Using coordinate systems on TPS.

An attached coordinate system is not used to reduce any measured distance on a TPS instrument.

Points surveyed with a TPS instrument are always stored in local GRID coordinates regardless of the coordinate system being used."

Good to know!
