I need to be able to see a NMEA compliant string streaming from a GPS receiver. Unfortunately, I only have access to laptops "upgraded" to Windows 7.
Since Hiper terminal is not available on the Windows 7 platform, does anyone have any suggestions for any of the replacements such as PuTTY, etc? Have you actually used them and got decent results?
Thanks!

Original XP HyperTerminal
If you just can’t live without the original HyperTerminal in Windows XP, you can actually extract two files from your XP installation and copy them over to Windows 7 or Vista.
The two files you will need are hypertrm.dll and hypertrm.exe. Simply copy those files into any directory on your machine and it will work. You should be able to find hypertrm.exe in C:Program FilesWindows NT and hypertrm.dll in C:WindowsSystem32.
If you have the Windows XP CD, you should be able to find both of these files in the i386 directory on the CD.

I use Putty for some things (e.g. shell access to my webspace), but I copied my XP Hyperterminal files over and use Hyperterminal for others. It works fine for me.
Thanks, Jim.
Unfortunately, I don't have the XP disks anymore.
Looks like PuTTY will work, though.

Try RealTerm. It think it works in Win7, can't remember now.
I tried many termnal programs, this one seems like the best one. (I am still WinXP user)
Try using ClearTerminal ( http://www.clearconnex.com/content/clearterminal ) its a great free hyper-terminal replacement.
