Start off on the right foot and begin learning the quick keys; you can edit them to your preference. One thing I didn't like about an older version of Carlson was that they couldn't be edited. Either they changed this or its a feature in my embedded version. I created a new file to preserve the original but I just edit a 1-2 letter quick key for common commands. Make sure your mouse right click is set to enter and you will gain some speed while you learn the program. .
If he is using Carlson Survey with embedded AutoCAD, quick keys are not really included with that setup. It's simple to add the .pgp file and get back to normal.
The BEST training is NOT necessarily the videos. Not everyone runs dual monitors. The BEST that I have found are the manuals that Jennifer DeBona puts out. Initial set up and a full study of points can be found in one manual. Then the field to finish manual is a must. For a great overvies Rick Ellis has a good manual at cadapult.com.

Another thing, after the first of the year, discussions will commence on opening a Carlson College center in Mississippi . IF all goes well, you won't have to travel so far for training opportunities. Potential is there to offer installation and configuration services for your software. Right now the plan is to cover both the Civil and Survey packages. This outlet will NOT sell the software, so training sessions will NOT be sales demos but will be designed to answer your questions and show you some features that you may not know about.
