Before Covid, our crews only came into the office about once or twice a week anyways, sent scanned field notes by email, and sent field data over the cloud. We just use more digital staking packages, viewed on tablets. I prefer being able to go over complicated projects in person, but we have adapted to doing Zoom meetings and screen sharing to discuss jobs. Coordinating with the engineers (and other offices) is done over Zoom as well.
Our office is one of the smaller ones, with me being one of two licensees in the office, no drafters (we research/process/draft everything ourselves), and three field crews. Lots of phone calls throughout the day to coordinate, but we are all pretty good at shifting gears and being flexible so it doesn't take long to change up our schedule.
The only real problem with scheduling is that since Covid, for some reason a lot of our clients call three times as often, expect the work three times as fast, and complain three times as much, despite us turning things around just as fast as before. Which has the impact of slowing me down by about a third...spending ten hours working to get seven or eight hours of actual work done is not fun.
I'm not sure why some people think we're not working on their projects any more. The only time I'm definitely not working on their projects is when I am reassuring them that we are still working on their projects.
You could easily have a Google Docs sheet that has the schedule. One of the least complicated ways to avoid putting another email program on a phone since the default email program on iphone is recommended, and also outlook isn't supported by my company's IT system.
