I use a FCL when collecting feature and attribute data for pipe line as-builts. I am running Spectra Precision Survey Pro 5.2.1. I extract the data as a .CSV file using Spectra Precision Survey Pro Office. I have no experience importing the data into CAD.

Tips?
Don't leave fields blank when entering field data. It can be a PITA when processed. I always enter a zero or some character.

Always use a leading zero when entering a number that contains a dash.

Don't enter a comma in the data field.

I guess you have read about Field to Finish on the Autocad website?
If not here is a link:-

I also use feature code library's for pipeline.
To bring that into cad, you need to make a custom point file format.

We have been using regular description keys for f2f for since 98.
Just wondered if any one had tried jumping to feature codes and if they had any luck.
It seems there is a large gap between the collector and cad in this regard.
Not worth the trouble from what I've seen.

We run Carlson Survey in the office and Carlson Field in the field. The Survey FLD file is converted to a FCL file and downloaded into the data collectors. So far, no problems. Perhaps it works better because we are going from a Carlson product to a Carlson product, but if set up correctly and converted correctly FCL's should work just fine and save you a lot of time.
Go back to your VAR (the clown that sold you the hardware) and have him help you get it set up. That is a major part ov a VAR's job. If he cannot do it, but your next stuff from someone else. Before purchase, ask if they can help with setups after sales. If the say "no", try someone else.

Could I see a screen shot of a coordinate list from your cad?

I went to a Carlson Seminar last Tuesday where everyone else there was in the pipeline industry and wanted to know how to add all those descriptor attributes to the shots. The instructor said he had some info he would get to them on how to do this in Carlson 2013 and in 2014.
Aaron Newman was the instructor.Maybe an email to him will get you the info you need?

I am so GLAD I don't do pipeline surveys!! Topo's are just so much easier. 😛

I work mostly with pipeline data and I use Carlson. Once the initial F2F setup is done it is very easy to bring that kind of information into Carlson. We don't do it straight from the collector to CAD, mostly because the different collectors we have all use different formats for reporting that kind of data. I am trying to get us some Carlson data collectors so we can go from the field to cad with minimal steps.

This is doable but you will need to setup custom parameters and point input files for your additional columns. I am no expert in this area but have done it in the past for items such as addresses, pipe sizing and other parameters.

yes, i have done that. (thats what that list is)
my problem is getting the collector,SurveyPro5.3, to export as such.
Even better would be for cad to read a dc file (xml, survey, job, csv, anything)that reads feature coded files, eliminating spectra office, and classifying each point with it's feature code.
I used the weld shot features for the point file format, just because that is the most important feature....
