Does the Star*net Carlson Converter include Side Shots?

I'm using TraversePC as a workaround for importing Carlson .rw5 files into Starnet.
So far it's working fairly well, but have come across an "anomaly": It doesn't seem to bring in Side Shot data.
Here's an example of a portion of a file:

--Set Collection with Obs Order 123...321...
OC,OP500,N 5273.12097,E 5000.00351,EL1032.615,--FIELD
LS,HI5.2000,HR4.9900
BK,OP500,BP700,BS74.0750,BC0.0000
LS,HI5.2000,HR4.9900
BD,OP500,FP700,AR0.0000,ZE87.4948,SD208.104000,--POND
LS,HI5.2000,HR5.1200
FD,OP500,FP100X,AR105.5208,ZE96.5231,SD275.088000,--POB
FR,OP500,FP100X,AR285.5235,ZE263.0736,SD275.089000,--POB
LS,HI5.2000,HR4.9900
BR,OP500,FP700,AR180.0032,ZE272.1028,SD208.103000,--POND
--SS,OP500,FP700,AR0.0000,ZE87.4940,SD208.103500,--POND
--LS,HI5.200000,HR5.120000
--SS,OP500,FP100X,AR105.5206,ZE96.5228,SD275.088500,--POB
--LS,HI5.200000,HR4.990000

It shows no sign of the SS records, I assume because they're shown commented out. I've never really understood why SurvCE "comments out" the SS records, but does anyone know whether these records would show up in Starnet as observations using the Starnet Carlson Converter, even though they're shown as comments?

Those aren't ordinary SS records, they're part of the set measurements shown immediately above. I suspect that the converter correctly handles ordinary SS records without trouble.

Jim:
OK. Yes I think you are right about these particular "SS" records. I believe SurvCE has "meaned" the set and output the means.
Still don't understand why they're commented out, but that's for another day to learn.

But here's another file, with SS records...I shot a bunch of topo, using the feature in SurvCE that lets you do that.
They still aren't showing up at all in my DAT file.

So the question remains: Does anyone know (for sure), how the Carlson Convertor treats such records when bringing them into Starnet.
It should be as simple as processing the file and outputting a DAT to look at, no?

The converter handles side shots perfectly.
The only problems I've ever encountered were "operator error" related.

Would it be asking too much as a favor to run the .rw5 above through your converter, and post the dat file, to see how it treats the ss records. There's definitely something wonkers with the way I'm trying to do it.

DAT file from STAR*CARLSON converter with settings

  • Special Sideshot Handling - Create M Lines for Redundant Sideshots
  • Average Shots in Multiple Sets
  • Include Backsight Check Data

Converter algorithm appears to consider multiple sets as being redundant sideshots...

Thank you very much! This looks perfect. I see how it handled the data. It appears that the adjustment works only on the occupied points first then does the Side Shots post adjustment, so that they are then adjusted (but don't affect anything but themselves.)
I appreciate the help.

Replace "the occupied points" with "points for which there are redundant measurements" and I think you've got it.
