I am piecing together some older quality equipment and Just bought a?ÿ Topcon GTS 4B and also a Topcon GTS 301D.

Question is , what would be the best "affordable used" data collector to use with either of these guns ??ÿ ?ÿIs the FC-2000 compatible??ÿ

Thanks?ÿ?ÿ

I imagine that just about every data collector made after 1990 will work a Topcon GTS-Series. You will need a cable. The ports?ÿand pins are often the weakest?ÿpart of these old controllers.

Thanks- a little background here- When I surveyed many years ago we use a Carl Zeiss Jena gun, pulled a 200 ft. steel tape for everything except mounted an EDM for traversing, and wrote everything in a field book.?ÿ To me a data collector is like foreign object :)?ÿ

So am I correct to understand that these different types of cable end connectors are going to be about the only thing I need to be aware of or have to purchase or do some sort of adapter conversion to make them work?

Also are you saying?ÿ the ports and pins are weakest point as in be?ÿ wary of an older models data collectors having damage at the connection point...not so much the cable itself??ÿ?ÿ

Correct. The cables are still available to purchase, New. Beware of bad ports with bent or broken pins on used controllers.?ÿ It may be difficult to find parts or someone to repair an old controller.

Got it thanks.?ÿ If one is for sale that they say will not hold a charge but they have a picture of it turned on and screen is displaying.?ÿ How is that happening??ÿ ?ÿAlso could that then be simply be fixed by replacing with a new battery, or could a broken pin be allowing it to turn on still, but affecting the ability to charge.

What do you think?

In that case they could supply power via charging cable to turn on the display. NiCAD and Lithium batteries have a short lifespan, and once they go completely dead they are shot

?ÿBut there are plenty of companies that recell batteries. Some people on this board do it themselves.
