I have never been one to customize AutoCAD.
I read there is a way to make Map3D "look" like plain AutoCAD by loading the Acad.cuix customization file. I don't know why, but I would find it useful to be able to access the Vanilla AutoCAD help files, menus, and tool bars rather than just the Map 3D tools. Weird I know.
I also use Carlson software.
I read that it is as easy as loading the Acad.cuix customization file.
Under my SUP folder, I have the following options.
ac14base.CUIX
acad14tb.CUIX
cs14base.bak.cuix
cs14base.cuix
cs14base-hr.cuix
I don't see the Acad.cuix file.
If I do a search I do find that file under UserDataCacheen-us
Do any of you autocad experts have advice? My goal is to have AutoCAD Map 3D launch as plain AutoCAD with my Carlson menu's intact. I do not use the Map tools very often.
Thanks!
To complicate the issue further, I searched the hard drive for "*.cuix" and got 100 hits. There are a lot of different customization files.
And you are scared to try any of them. I feel your pain, me too.:bye: o.O
I was told type the command menubar then set it to one. I am making the switch next week to late on a Friday to learn new tricks.
Yes I read you simply type "menu" at the command line, then set it to Acad.cuix
I am cautious that I will lose my Carlson menus, settings, ect.
Imaudigger,
Customizing is way over my pay grade. But if you wanted to, for whatever reason, work in Vanilla, there is an easy way. Every specialized version of AutoCAD allows you to also open Vanilla. Start Menu >> Programs >> Autodesk. Thusly:
Dave
Yes, I read about that option as well. Apparently, however not every install provides that option. It's beyond me why Autodesk would think that someone would want to pay extra for the Map functions and not have easy access to the vanilla help, tool bars, ribbons, menus, ect.
Imaudigger,
I'm surprised that Map doesn't give you Vanilla, like Civil 3D. But how about using Workspace Switching to at least give you the Vanilla Ribbon?
Short of that, maybe a post in the Map Forum might give you something.
Dave
I think I have two issues going on.
#1 I want to simply run Map3D as plain AutoCAD,
#2 Carlson is thrown into the mix which means I am probably using their .cuix file rather than the one that came with the Autodesk install.
Here are my workspace options...notice the AutoCAD Classic option.
This is what I get when I load that AutoCAD Classic workspace. Looks like the cat was walking around on the keyboard while someone was editing the CUI file. Duplicate menus and duplicate tool bars. This is a reoccurring problem for numerous releases.
EDIT: Woops can't read text in picture.
The menus run across the top
FILE EDIT DRAW INQUIRY SETTINGS POINTS WINDOW HELP SURVEY COGO CENTERLINE VIEW MAP HELP FILE EDIT VIEW CREATE MODIFY ANAYLZE SETUP WINDOW HELP FILE EDIT VIEW CREATE MODIFY ANALYZE SETUP WINDOW HELP
Then there is the duplicate tool bars.
2 Standard toolbars
2 Properties toolbars
2 Workspace toolbars
Really not much for usefulness or productivity. It leaves me wondering if I am missing out on drafting productivity because of how messed up the interface is. With Map3D and Carlson's version of workspaces.
Imaudigger,
I'd say you're definitely missing out on some drawing productivity.
You've probably already tried playing with these:
Dave
First off I have mostly used the command line.
That is how I am getting by with the more recent updates.
Most of the tabs I have are Carlson tabs and Map 3D tabs.
I think there may be one tab related to 2D editing of GIS data.
I think rather than complaining about it, I should probably learn how to do some customizations. I would expect all of the plain Autocad stuff AND the Map 3D, not just Map3D.
Frustrated.
DOGGONE you!
All my ribbons disappeared over the weekend.
