Last fall I built a new PC. I was SOOO proud when it booted up and went on the first go. Trying to reduce boot time as much as possible, I installed a Crucial M4 64Gb SSD as primary drive for OS (Win7) & also my main productivity software. Works great!
Yesterday afternoon, PC just locked up for no reason, and wouldn't reboot. Checked BIOS and it wasn't seeing SSD. Just not there. Disconnected SSD and reconnected, and, voila, BIOS sees it and it boots just fine. OKaaaay....shrug & go back to work.
Joined SWMBO for cocktails & dinner on the patio. Went back to office after dinner &
see blue screen of death. Remember those?
Again, no SSD in BIOS. Disconnect, reconnect and it boots up fine. Hmmmm. After some research online (god bless the internet!) it seems that Crucial M4 SSDs have a bug that causes them to go tits up after 5200± hours of on time. Swell. Power off then on gives you 1 more hour of use, then repeat ad nauseum. After only 4 hours of fudging around downloading and installing the latest firmware update, hopefully the problem is solved.
We'll see in about, oh, 35 minutes or so........
Edit- Still running. BTW, I see that TigerDirect.com has this drive for $75 w/ free shipping.
