As a result of continued poor housekeeping by our design team I need to produce a report detailing all of the crossing strings following the creation of a surface from imported GENIO data.

The surface Information Report lists the "Flags" and associated height differences generated but does not include anything in respect of String labels or position.

Given that we are currently working from 50+ design models, some of which are now on to their 6th revision I would appreciate any assistance so that I can report these issues to our design team in a form that they can easily understand.

As an option, you could send your models to a friend who uses Carlson. It does a good job at reporting crossing breaklines, their horizontal position and vertical difference. The sofware also provides the option to creates cad entities (a scalable X) at those intersections and places them on a layer called bad_tin.

Trimble has always had very good 3d rendering; can't the designers see their errors in reviewing the model.

Rev6 isnt too bad...I joined on a job last year with drawings rev16; I couldn't believe it, at first I thought it was a joke...

Hi James,

You would think that but given that we have been asking them to tidy there designs for about 8 months now and several of the more complex designs require 2+ hours of editing before I can sync them to our engineers and surveyors controllers, it would appear that either they do not understand the issue, do not care or are simply a bit thick. I know which one I think it is!

I'm currently awaiting a response from Trimble with regard to altering the Surface Report in TBC to include string labels, positions etc. but if I'm honest I won't be holding my breath as Trimble in my experience aren't the best at offering up solutions to issues regarding TBC.

I'm fairly sure that if I had more than a passing knowledge of Visual Basic I could edit the relevant report format file but this project is only set to run for three years so I may have to just keep internalising my rage.
