I had a bit of a talk with Ladd Nelson, at the ASPS Spring Conference. He said that Carlson had invested a bit in "Intellicad", and that some features were there, that were not in the autocad version.
And...
Some of the users on this forum, have had problems in the past with intellicad. Including me.
And...
Since I am trying to order, or buy another computer this week, I'd like some ideas on what to get, or not to get. I am working with the theory that MAYBE some of the problems with intellicad were that the video card, or something was not as well liked by the software. So, I want to buy hardware, that is recommended by Carlson, or heavy Cad users.
I think I want a Windows 7 machine,
1 Tb hard drive.
128 MB Solid State hard drive.
Solid video card.
8+ gigs of ram memory.
Essentially, a GAMING computer, with a video card, that Intellicad likes. And, that auto cad likes too.
Since I want to order today if I can, please tell me what to buy.
Thank you
Nate
I always go with Dell, just go online and order. I would say Windows 7 Pro will be a better choice than plain jane Windows 7.

look at Asus on TigerDirect too, compare to a Dell and see if you get a better deal.
Will get back to you tonight. My SWMBO builds gaming computers for herself and my office. There is something about the monitor you need to know.
Currently I'm using an NVIDIA Quadro K4000 video card. I am very satisfied with the performance.
Lines are very smooth. When I rotate a line, it isn't slightly jagged or stair stepped as it has been in the past.
I have yet to try Intellicad with this video card.
Currently running a
Dell Precision T3600
464 GB hard drive (programs only)117 gigs free (DELL PERC H310 SCSI Disk?)
8 GB ram
NVIDIA Quatro K400 Video card
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit - Service pack 1
Dual Monitors
Best machine I have used.
I would recommend a larger SSD drive.
I install the OS and all programs on the SSD and set all programs to store their data on the HDD. With this setup I quickly ran out of space on my 128 GB SSD. I think the rule of thumb used to be that you needed a 1:1 ratio of RAM to Swap file space. I have 16 GB of RAM installed and only 13 GB of space on the SSD so I have a new 256 GB SSD sitting on my desk waiting to be installed when I have a bit of down time. Also, due to the architecture of the SSD drives the larger capacities often achieve faster read/write times.
I'm running same machine as you digger with 32G of RAM. It is also the best machine I have ever run. Smokin'.....
You want to get a 1 millisecond monitor.
