Hi there everyone,
I am trying to Export my Civil3d Project into Google Earth. The problem I am having is that it changes all the text to Google Earth labels, and I just want them to remain as (unsmart) drawing elements. I have tried both the Toolbox->Export KML as well as MAPEXPORT to a kml, and both export the text data to Google Earth labels.
Does anybody any solutions? Converting everything to a single block before exporting didn't help.
Thanks in advance.
Have you tried importing the KML file into your DWG on it's own layer?
I don't know that this is possible. We export linework often and sometime points using Sincpac, but usually it's just linework only from Civil3d. We find it easier to export from TBC, but still there is no text like you're looking for.
Yes. Layering does not seem to matter.
I have done text not labels from tbc. To a kml. It gets tough to read on a phone if your crews read it so I often had to play with the elevation on the text so the text doesn’t hide in the trees. But I can’t remember for the life of me how I worked around it. Unfortunately I am not in a Trimble shop now so I don’t have access to TBC at the moment. I remember burning the midnight oil for my crews on a solar project and figured it out. So I made notes on certain areas and the crews loved as they navigate the site and know exactly what needed to be done in certain areas.
I had to do that once a long time ago. Use the Express Tools - Explode Text. That will turn the text into actual linework. Simplex works best, some other fonts get weird when exploded. Also, I think there was a problem with the text moving and rotating if the drawing had a DVIEW TWIST applied - so you may need to have north straight up on the drawing.
Google Earth does not have a provision to draw text labels in KML other than the placemarks you see. Neither Autodesk supplied KML writer commands are exporting the annotations as vectors (what you want). Given the tools you have the express explode is the best option, which does not work with truetype fonts, so you will also need to set all your styles to a vector like ROMANS.SHX before exploding.
Awesome, thank you everyone. I will give that a try once I am down drowning in fieldwork.
