Okay, I'm working on the master drawing that I talked about below.

I have decided for this project to just make a single layer for each sheet in model space, and then use the layer control manager to control what is in each sheet/viewport. I am going to have one drawing, with a different layout tab for each sheet.

How do I change multiple entities from different layers, to one layer, and still retain their linetypes and colors? Is there a quick and simple way?

I've never tried this type of global change before.

Please forgive the elementary questions, I'm going on about 4 hours of sleep in the past two days trying to get this project out the door.

Thanks!

Just Think Of What You Want To Do

You want to change properties of an object, change is part of editing.

"Edit" pulldown

"Change" command

"Properties"

click on an object, a line, or a block or many blocks,

Once it is picked you have a choice of colors, or color by layer

you also have the option of changing the layer the object on.

BTW there are two main ways to change an objects layer,

Under the "View" pulldown is "change layer" pick an object or objects, hit enter, pick an object on the layer you want to change it to, or hit enter again and you get the layer list. Pick another object and after the second enter it prompts you with the last layer picked. If you select a layer that is frozen it thaws and turns that layer on.

If you change layers using the edit/change/properties method and select a frozen layer, the object disappears from view and the layer remains frozen.

Carlson is very intuitive which is why I love it.

I do not know of a way to copy objects to new layers and retain their properties unless that have all been set to something that is not "by Layer". If tons of layers does not worry you and you are using view ports, could you prefix the layers from each drawing to make them identifiable? You can easily add that using the rename command.

Now this should be posted int he correct thread.
