Anybody know how to disassociate symbols from the points.
ex. if i copy line work and symbols in a dwg. im looking for a way so that the copied symbols will have no attachment to the points they came from.

The only way I could think of is by deselecting Group point entities from the carlson configure>general settings menu and then re-run field to finish. This will provide each item separately.

My point entities are already not grouped, the symbol and the points are not grouped together.
I was looking for a way for the symbol to not have file coordinates attached to it.

Or if possible is there a way to have the symbols for points to never have file coords. attached to them.

I'm no expert but there is a symbol placement utility that's just the symbol (reddish bulls-eye thing as I recall). You can choose which symbol as you would when setting a coordinated point. I'm not near my computer or I would load up a screen shot.

I have worked on surveys in other's offices that have become detached and I consider it a hindrance to good work. The symbol tells me a lot about what the point is without reading the description. If it is necessary to you, you can simply insert the symbol only in the point command, explode the point or do it other ways.

One caveat if the symbol is not associated with the point coordinate it is much more work to determine if it is in the right location.

Still not sure what problem you are trying to solve (there may be a better solution).
However - Look at FILE --> Drawing Utilities --> Remove Reactors

That might do what you are needing. I'd test it on a copy.

If all you want is a point symbol:
Type in the command: ptsym
Drop down menus: draw>symbols>insert symbols

Don't explode (ew, gross)

OPTIONS -> Selection -> Object Grouping (No to this, make sure it is off)
Run your FLD2FIN and enjoy your blocks.

I do not care for my symbols to be attached to my points.

My points symbol, point number, description and elevations are in their own different layers.
Regular autocad has a function that when the cursor is moved over a clump of points on the screen, they will appear to zoom in and separate so each can be read.
I'd really like to know if there is an option for that in Carlson.

Just to clarify my pts are set up so the pt# elev desc node(the little dot) and symbols are not grouped together. Once I get my drawing to a state where just my line work and symbols are shown I want to make multiple copies in model space. Basically just to draw proposed changes. Each copy having it's own viewport/layout etc.
If I double click any of the copied symbols it displays pt information NEZ etc. This is what I meant by disassociating the symbol from the pt. If I explode the symbol which is a block reference it just disappears. Also if I redraw my pts and need to erase and redraw my symbols in my base dwg then I will lose all my symbols in my copies.

We had a CAD question going around the office earlier this summer. Jake the intern took to the internet and found a post I made here that posed the same question. He did not look at the picture and did not know my internet name but said this guy has the same question.

There were 2 or 3 solutions in this post. I am not sure what PDMODE does but the CTRL+H seems to be the option I was seeking. The redraw Fld2Fin without drawing points is a cumbersome solution, but a solution nonetheless. If these do not work let me know, Carlson 2018 Beta 5 was released last week and they are wrapping up for the 2018 release.
