Okay all, I am trying to be very cautious here.

I have a new laptop, and I have installed Carlson Survey 14 w/Intelli,
on this machine.

I also purposefully uninstalled the software running on my old "home" laptop.

Now I'm faced with the options to get this thing up and running.

In the "Reg. Method" tab
I can choose
1. Form -Fill in information and send registration form
2. Internet - Register on-line instantly
3. Already have a change key
4. Register Later

I would prefer 2.) to do internet using my original key code I got about 11 months ago.

Next, I have the "Install Info" tab

1. New install or maintenance upgrade
2. Home use.
3. Re-installation
4. Windows or AutoCAD Upgrade
5. New Hardware (new hard drive, network card, new computer)

Here, I am conflicted, since this is on a "Home use" machine, so I don't care if the old "Home use" license is blown up. But I really can't afford for my main Desktop to go down today, if it doesn't work.

In the "User Info" tab, it is pulling the computer user name (Win8 machine) and the Company is the computer brand, this is not how I registered before, I used the real names.

In the "Authorize" tab
I get a pop up that says

Please come back to this screen once you have
1. Filled out Registration sheet and sent it to Carlson
2. Obtained a change key from Carlson
3. Selected pre-autorized change key option

NOW, what to do ?

Carlson has a section in their knowledge base under licensing that may provide some insight.

"New Hardware (new hard drive, network card, new computer) - Specify this reason when an underlying computer hardware change (e.g.installation of a new hard-dirve or the purchase of a brand new computer) necessitates Carlson to be re-registered.

NOTE: When the software is installed to a new computer, the Carlson Software product installed to the "old" computer must be removed."

The Registration Wizard does not give me much to go on, with the "New Hardware" and I fear the worst case scenario, that it will automatically pick my Office Computer, and crush that license.

That's what I'm afraid of.

I believe the choice that you should pick is "home use"

(Might be safer to do installs/licensing during business hours)

Carlson locked my computer before when I loaded it a new home computer , and yes it was my office computer they locked . Had to call them and explain that I had a new computer at home and the old one died . they fixed it pretty quick . So that check into carlson everytime you start up aint for upgrades its so they can shut you down .

The way I understand it, there is that list of reasons to be re-registering a serial number. It will normally go through unchallenged if you use one that you haven't used before.

The first install on your office computer would not have challenged the registration since the license was unregistered to that point.

The subsequent install on your home laptop should have gone through on the Home Use option.

This time, if you select new hardware it should be unchallenged.

Carlson Survey automagically goes on line to check for software updates every time you boot up the software. That also lets them see how many installs are being run.
