OK, I am using AutoCAD Map 3D 2015 with Carlson Civil/Survey 2015

I mentioned last week about a mess of duplicate menu items I got when Carlson was installed.

So I broke down and spent some time "customizing" AutoCAD in an attempt to clean it up and make the software some what useable.

I turned off a bunch of tool bars, displayed a few, moved things around, ect. ect.
I saved the workspace and switched to another workspace. Did the same thing...saved it. I was able to switch back and forth between workspaces and it pretty much retained my settings. I say pretty much because every once in awhile a few tool bars would appear that I had turned off.

I was able to import a 3D Modeling workspace, which worked very well.

Today I start up Carlson/AutoCAD using any one of the 3 icons and all of my changes are gone and I am back to square 1.

I thought the workspace settings were saved in the .CUIX file?

Any ideas?

Don't currently have the software in front of me but it's likely not "seeing" the saved .cuix file to load the correct workspaces. Poke around options and also right click your icon to see where your paths may reside.

You may have to look around the CUI editor. Command line: type CUI and hit enter.
A lot of information pops up. This is where you make things like custom toolbars, palettes, etc.

I have Carlson Civil Suite but those paths are typically AutoCAD through and through.

If you're in a hurry or have to fix now, call Carlson. They will fix you up.

The CUI will mess with you if you come from much ealier versions of AutoCAD anything.

Hope this helps some,
Mark Driver

I am pretty sure that the default for workspaces is NOT to save changes. I had to change this a couple years ago, but don't remember offhand where it's located.

I would love to share an insight or suggestion but any CUIX statement I'd make would show my utter ignorance pertaining to Custom User Interfaces. I have tried over the years to understand CUIX but with each attempt, I get thoroughly confused and simply give up. If I can locate a resource or come up with anything useful, I'll be sure to relay it here.

You might try to save the profile under the autocad options dialog box.
Save all menu positions through the workspace and the save the profile.

This happens regularly in Carlson 2015 OEM. That dang ribbon stays forever but the tool bars come and go. I have to go to the workspace settings and find my stuff, highlight it, it turns blue, then hit the apply button and most comes back in. (I'd be MUCH more specific, but it usually involves a lot of bumbling around the cui editor until something works. Main problem is that 2/3 of the items on the workspace icon on the lower fight menu bar, simply do not work. Click on them, the screen blinks and nothing happens. Evidently just another feature that the nice people at Autodesk chose NOT to include e in the autocad kernel they sell Carlson. Ms. Barf just stinks!!)

I'll give that a try. I didn't see an option to save the profile, but will look closer.

Ladd, I wish someone over at Carlson would take some training classes on the CUI.
It has the potential to really improve the product. Ultimately it would be nice if the Autodesk default workspaces and menu structures were fully intact and the Carlson features were simply added to that. This being true for all of the Autodesk platforms that Carlson supports.

The default install HAS to be slick and useable. I cannot imagine what someone using AutoCAD Map 3D would think if they were trying out a demo and saw how badly the menu's, tool bars, ribbons, and workspaces were altered after install.

Because everyone likes to set up the software slightly differently is no excuse to throw it all on the customer to sort out.

This too has been my experience.
