What's the story with Carlson and intellicad.?ÿ When you buy Carlson's intellicad do you get the cogo functions too, or just vanilla intellicad?
When you buy Carlson, it comes with a full IntelliCad?ÿpackage or you can install it on an AutoCad?ÿplatform.?ÿ I'm more than pleased with the IntelliCad?ÿplatform.?ÿ Bye bye, AutoCad.?ÿ We're through.?ÿ Carlson has all the cogo functions and way more than you'll ever need.?ÿ Civil/Survey/GIS packages are all I've ever needed.?ÿ There are modules for doing the Civil/Hydraulics/Mining modules and much more.

Note that Carlson also sells Carlson iCAD ($595) which is basically IntelliCAD with a thin slice of Carlson functionality.?ÿ Watch the price you're looking at, at this price range you won't likely get Cogo, etc.
From what I gather (looking to make a switch soon) if you're starting new and need COGO you need the Carlson Survey package. the Carlson iCAD won't help with the survey side.
Not really straight to the OP's question, but I feel like testifying instead of doing the work in front of me.

To avoid the rush, I purchased "Carlson Civil Suite 2016" in 2016 (Intellicad based). Has: Survey, Civil, Hydrology and GIS (cogo is definitely in there).
Didn't start to really use it until 2017 and was extremely displeased (w/ 2016- Icad based). It seemed to crash if I only thought about scratching my nose. So, I held onto my 2010 c3d.
Then, as expected, a windows update finally killed my 2010 last December, during a deadline rush. Fought with my copy of '16... got to the point of murderous frustration. Vendor offered a 30 day upgrade to 2018 w/ Icad (no, I wasn't paying the maintenance fee).
Worked way better than expected after my experience with '16. Still crashes at odd times (really hates to do a multiple polyline edit where I change lots of lines to plines at one shot). So, I paid my back-maintenance and have been using 2018 on Icad, only. Happy. Even use my c3d template; although, I'm migrating away from the fancier fonts I was using. KISS.
Intellicad is very similar to AutoCAD/ c3d from the commandline. A couple of odd ones for me: 'cp' for copy and 'of' for offset. BIG for me is the 'mldr' command- you must be in world UCS to get the multileader to align to your viewport, regardless of the twisted UCS (this is only for folks using paperspace/ modelspace, I guess).

The Carlson cogo routines and routines under the "survey" ribbon are excellent and easy to tweak for a personalized appearance. I do not like the Hyrdology features, they are tied to tightly to the drawing. I prefer to simply hand-input values and use the computer to run the calcs so, I use a standalone H&H package.
Haven't done much civil but, I predict it will be straight-forward: set horizontal alignment> give v-curve data> cut finished profiles. This stuff hasn't changed much since softdesk 8 (drag and update seems to be the only major change with the bigger players).
good day, all.

The only way I have been able to keep my programs from being compromised by updates is to take the computer, that they are installed, offline.
If the computer and programs are operating properly, no updating is necessary.

understood. As much as I try to maintain vigilance, I had a good friend talk me into staying recent with windows patches. For me, for now, it keeps me ahead of a potential issue.
Ultimately, this software death was good. Pulled me off that souring autoDesk teet and I needed it.?ÿ
