This is not really an important issue for me because I have been using Qlegal for about ten years and am very happy with it. However I was wondering how you modify the basic report format for the C3D metes and bounds report. If someone has a link or can tell me how to change the report format that would be great.

While I am posting my wish list I might as well ask about a free tiff and pdf viewer that can print just the portion of the file that you have visible on your screen. Adobe Premium can do this but I can't find a free or cheap viewer that can.

I tried this a few versions ago and found it uses a HTML format and html report files, so if you are versed in modifying HTML code then your in. I am not. I have always hoped that someone would explain to me that I was missing the simple user friendly application that modified the pre-canned reports, but that hasn't happened yet.

HTML isn't that hard. All you need to know is how to use tags and what the corresponding uses are with each tag and their attributes. The CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) or style attributes is what is difficult to remember and keep up with since there are so many it seems like.

By the way, HTML is a markup language and displays the content. The CSS or styles control the way the content looks. Keeping them separate is the general idea with the standards of today.

You should be able to find the .xsl file that define your report contents here: C:ProgramDataAutodeskC3D 2011enuDataReportsxsl. There should be one called MetesBounds.xsl, and you can edit it in WordPad. But like Jered and Darrell said, you have to get comfortable with its language.

I'm looking forward to jumping into the GeneralLegalPhrasings.xml file myself!

Robert,

Paul showed me this yesterday...

Find your version of "C:ProgramDataAutodeskC3D 2010enuDataReportsxslGeneralLegalPhrasings.xml" and make a copy of it for safety.

Then you can edit the original how you like it.

For this example, I made a copy of an OOTB line, and below it my edited line. This just to illistrate the two lines, you should only have one when you are thru.

The words highlighted in yellow on the second line indicate my edits. Don't mess with anything that looks "programmish" (i.e. brackets, etc).

I only needed to edit the section under , as I generate my legals from parcels.

Save, and you should be ready to go.

Regarding images, Windows 7 has a "Snipping Tool" in the Start Menu, otherwise download Irfanview (free), you will love it.

are there any other programs that work with c3d dealing with "writing" a basic legal description? In LDD 2007, we've used "legalaid" and it's worked pretty well. easy to edit to add calls, etc... Haven't tried it with c3d yet.

I use Qlegal from www.budcad.com and it works just as good on C3D 2010 as it did LDD.
