Based on some comments in other post I downloaded Briscad and DOTsoft Mapworks . Coming form a Carlson background I think Carlson would do well and take a look at Briscad. I am very impressed with its speed and stability . Seems to be ahead of the curve than intellicad . Wonder why Carlson will not jump on this cad engine as it is cheap ?
Dotsoft Sureying software seems to be in its beginning stages but could be something worth checking out, developer is very open to new ideas , and making it better.
Boy I was confused when this came up. As I remembered Bricscad and Cadopia (besides Carlson) were the 2 big boys in the iCAD arena. I used Cadopia flavor in the past and worked well for me.
Apparently Bricssys left iCAD. http://www.bricsys.com/common/news.jsp?item=149 Wonder why?

I just installed the BricsCAD demo. It appears not to have the LISP issues that I'm having with IntelliCAD. I may give it a go.
Worth mentioning is that thread is 3 years old (see the small gray dates on the left).
Yes, 3 years ago we want to use Carlson on BC.
I purchased the Pro verison of Briscad and added the Productivity Pak from Dotsoft to it. I run both Intellicad/Carlson 2014 and Briscad together on the same computer.
I used Dotsoft's ToolPak probably 10 years ago, so it is a pretty mature package. Dotsoft's MapWorks could be a fairly new software add on.
DWG files go back and forth without any problems at all between both programs. I use Carlson for what it does best, and use Briscad/Dotsoft for what it does best. Ya, it takes 30 seconds to save/close one program and open the other, but the efficiency of each programs features, works great for me. I have save significant time utilizing some of Dotsoft's routines.
The nice thing is Dotsoft recognizes and can utilize Carlson points immediately.
One big advantage with Briscad is working with xref files. It is faster than even Autocad 2014 to processing Xref on/off. For me, Intellicad falls WAY short here. I will load Briscad to process xref files, save it, and then reload Intellicad/Carlson and work away.
Briscad opens even the newest DWG drawings flawlessly and even seems to work pretty well with Civil 3D "objects". With a little manipulation I can see everything Civil3D sees.
If surveyors/engineers generate enough interest in Briscad, maybe Carlson will reconsider using Briscad as a program platform. With Autodesk now going the way of "yearly rental subscriptions", maybe enough of their clients will want to find a workable alternative.
I would love to see Carlson on Bricscad also. Bricscad is an excellent program and is very stable.
I find it to be exactly like working in Autocad. Please Carlson make Bricscad one of your options.
Autocad is just a no go price wise and Intellicad is just not up to it.
... Dotsoft recognizes and can utilize Carlson points immediately.
We didn't target this directly. Instead we wanted to be able to work with any block insert that had attributes and let the user specify the qualifying tags (like PNT, POINT, PNTNO, etc). So while we were at it we included defaults to detect Carlson, Softdesk, EaglePoint and a couple other known point blocks.
Many thanks to Gary and others for their support and comments!
To me, it's all about the COGO add on software. I just checked out briscad's website and found cogosoftware.com, which looked interesting, and offers a free demo download.
Speaking of point blocks ...
One thing that really bothered me when I demo'ed Carlson, after being an LDD user, was that the OSNAP EndPoint / Node setting, when connecting lines, could/wound snap to the endpoint of the point node cross, where as LDD would ignore the cross lines, and snap to the point node, even if you put the pick box over the text description. It seemed like a mistake waiting to happen.
I'm curious how the other brands of CAD/COGO handle this.
