I have a lot. If I create parcel from object, I get an area. If I use the area command, I get a different result. 5678sf vs. 5406sf. What gives? Any advice out there? C3D 2013. Thanks.

Does your parcel incorporate any arcs? In the past I have seen some programs exclude the secant area by mistake.

Do you know which area is correct?

How long have you been using C3D 2013 and/or any earlier versions?

We cannot tell what this object is that you create, but the Area command should give several options. Most likely it is "Area from lines and arcs" that you should be using.

Can you make point groups in your program? (Sorry, I am only familiar with Carlson running over Autocad stuff). If you can make point groups, and then do the area summary by the point group, this would give you a double check. Next idea is to enclose your parcel in a single polyline and do an area by interior point to get a second opinion. Not real sure what to suggest as to why you are getting different answers tho...

You can only get accurate numbers if you send a major donation to Wendell at least twice each year. You must be running behind. Send him a donation and things will straighten up real soon.

Oops, sorry. Just noticed you are new to the board.

Some of the brilliant minds here will have you fixed up before bedtime.

I remember one guy a long time ago mentioning he had a problem because he was using open circles as symbols at lot corners and trimmed his lines out of the circles. Then he was doing his area and getting weird numbers. Took him some time to figure that one out.

If you want open circles on line work, especially at PC/PTs or slight angle points you need to use wipeout for your point or monument symbols. See other problems posted today with using wipeout.

Life and surveying would not be any fun, without problems.

Be sure all lines, points, and arcs are on the same Z. 😉

Thanks all. I calc'd it old school (after a quick search to remember how) and confirmed the parcel information is pretty darn close. Area command

Thanks. Arcs throw the area off.

I always check the software from time to time.

Once I found that Carlson Civil was calculating the section volumes incorrectly.
It wasn't a big enough error to spot without running the math.
