Are the TDS and Carlson RW5 file formats the same?

I was wondering if a file format conversion utility for a TDS RW5 would work on a Carlson RW5 file.

No, they are not identical.

They are very close, contain basically all of same information, but the TDS Raw data files are Binary and therefore proprietary. There are several file, or format converters widely available out on the Internet. A simple Google search should offer you with some download options.

We treat them exactly the same. We have both TDS and Carlson DC's in the field. I get .raw and .rw5 files back, save a backup copy, and then process them the same in Carlson Survey. Just rename the .raw to .rw5, and it works the same.

Sidenote for certain users:
Processing *.rw5 files in Carlson does not recognize a south azimuth setting in the drawing.
