Does Carlson 2013 have a setting that allows the spacing between the bearing and distance to be variable based on the length of the line being labeled? I'm playing around with some labeling and it seems to be using the same spacing no matter the length of line.

its a standard spacing size..alternatively you can draw an stacked label or b_d label and you get 2 entities that yo can move where you want them

I was just playing around with Carlson's Auto-Annotation functions (under the Annotate menu) and found that you can do spread dimensions through Auto-Annotate.

That works exactly as I wanted. It would be a lot nicer if it applied to general annotation as well.

I second that recommendation. I just doesn't look right when you have a long line with a small annotation in the middle of the line. I like the Bearing and Distance equally spaced along the line. I think this is the way the old Land Development Desktop (LDD) annotated by default.

I have also figured out how to make the Carlson crows feet look more like the old LDD crows feet as well. The Carlson default crows feet looks ugly to me.

I agree sir. How do I do that?

The "Draw Leaders to Endpoint on Lines" options in the Annotate Defaults controls the appearance of the crows feet even if it isn't checked. I have found that the following settings replicate the old LDD style the best. The leader style "Dash-Dot" looks the most like the old LDD crows foot, but the dot is a point node and if you use a PDMODE other than 0 (like I do), it does not look right. So I use Arc-only.

I use the crows foot button on the Annotate Angle-Distance toolbar.

Following is an example, the southerly line has the traditional crows feet from the LDD symbol library, the westerly line has Arc-only leader type, the easterly line is Dash-Dot Leader type(with PDMODE 0) and the northerly line with Dashed leader type.
