they've been steadily updating it with major fixes. Not sure what version you've got. Early releases did lead to numerous crashes. I'm on a beta list that keeps releases pumping pretty routinely. What I'm running right now has proven to be quite stable.

I've been using it for the last couple months. I've haven't experienced too many crashes, but the overall performance seems to be lacking and it seemed like a step backwards compared to my 2000i AutoCAD. I download the embedded version a few days ago a noticed a much smoother feel immediately.

contact tech support and see if you can get on the beta list. I'm also running 130120, but I just got an email yesterday or day before from Carlson that a new build with numerous crash fixes is available. I guess I just haven't pushed the right buttons to get a crash yet.

I tried it out a couple months ago and finally gave up after having the same issues you mentioned. I contacted support and we ran through some settings and downloaded the latest updates to no avail.

Makes me wonder why any of us upgrade, at least right away.

Almost makes more sense to be a release behind, after all the bugs are out.

That is a WISE lesson that I learned years ago when fooling with AutoCAD LDD. I never saw any real advantage to instantly loading up ANY new release. If my client was a year or two ahead, he could always save back to my version for my use and he could easily use what I returned to him. He had the bug problems, not me.
Do the same with my Carlson. I am "rat happy" with my Survey 2010. It works just fine. There are a few new things in the latest release, but I can wait until all is fixed.
I just do not like being anybody's unpaid Beta tester.:-P

The CAD engine (Intellicad 7.2) is developed by the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium.

I believe Carlson Software is a member of that development team. Carlson should not be blamed 100% for bugs caused by Intellicad, nor more than they would for bugs caused by Autodesk.

I look at Intellicad as freeware. Once it works 100%, you will probably find that it is no longer free.

I didn't see many problems with the Carlson software side of things, just the Intellicad.

That's EXACTLY why I use Survey 2010 with Embedded AutoCAD. That version has VERY few bugs as does the 2013 embedded version. 2013 has a lot of neww features, but not quite enough for me to be able to wrangle thre Boss into updating just yet.
One day Intellicad will get it all ironed out and that version will rock too.
The PRIMARY reason that Carlson went with Intellicad after those wounderful folks at AutoDesk shanked them was to be able to offer their products at a realistic price to small businesses. Can't blame them a bit. One day it will all come together.
If you look at the overall situation, it appears the AutoDesk really does not want to have to deal with the survey end, but it is a necessary evil for them to get the big bucks from all those engineering firms. They are aimed at the engineers and architects and could care less about small business efforts.
That's why I don't see why they don't embrace companies like Carlson, etc. that could help enhance their markets. They used to love the 3rd party market vendors, but now, the either turn on them or buy them up. That's arrogance, not good business practice.

After talking and lots of help from Carlson, Thanks you. There was something twisted in the software on my computer. We did a software removal and removed info from the computer register, re installed the software, and things seem to be working close to before.

I think Carlson is a good software and very helpful technical support. Main reason for posting was a debate with myself if the computer was good enough to perform the CAD work.

Sure it is. The only difference between your computer and mine is that mine is a Dell 390. All of my Carlson loads are on top of AutoCAD or with embedded AutoCad, so your problems had to be either a software burp or an Intellicad boo-boo.:-)

I have noticed one thing that can cause the sort of instability you describe.

You should never have a space in a layer name. The same goes with a style names and linetype names. Use a dash or underscore to separate words but never a space.

Intellicad 7.2 works pretty good for me, but it does teach you to save a lot. It does seem to crash more than AutoCAD does, but if you get in the habit saving often, it is manageable. For the price, I can learn to hit save every 5 minutes.
