Mr Mark Eckl, Chief of the NGS Observations and Analysis Division, died from injuries incurred during a vehicle accident. Mark was a hell of a nice guy. Many of you have probably heard of him; luckier ones got to meet him.
No obituary yet.
Mark was a good friend and a great colleague. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
I went to the University of Florida with Mark. Sad to hear this news...
Yeah, I remember him as well, he was a grad student/TA at UF. Some of guys used to tease him that he had been in school so long that he had a benchmark on campus named after him... he really did. I wondered what happened to him. It looks like he was putting his extended education to good use and had a nice Federal job, and was taken out by a careless driver. Very sad.

I took this picture of Mark in 1997 while on a trip to the ACSM conference in Baltimore. Gone too soon...

I bet his family would enjoy receiving that photo.
Yes, truly a great guy- Mark was one of the people at NGS who epitomized what was good about that place. He was extra smart, worked well with his colleagues and the public and did not build an ivory tower around his office. One of the good guys....

I was at that conference too. Not sure if I met Mr. Eckl or not. Sorry for the loss.

If you click on the person's blue user name, it will take you to their information page. On that page is an icon that you can click to send a message and also a link to a webpage if they have one.
I hope that helps.
