Got a call this morning telling me that Ken Sorrels had passed away on a jobsite. He worked for Bobby Tuck of Tuck Mapping Solutions in Big Stone Gap Virginia. I didn't know him all that well, but he definitely was a likeable fellow.

My great-Grandma on my Mom's side is a Sorrels.
Wonder if we might be distantly related.

Dave and I had lunch with Ken a couple of weeks ago. This news sucks.

He will be missed.

Ken Sorrels, VA LS 1780

I think most of the surveyors in VA got an email of some sort yesterday telling us of his passing. I only got to meet him once in person, but was very nice. I had talked to him on the phone several times in regards to Trig-Star. I know he will be missed in that program.

Ken was a HUGE player in the Trig-Star program in VA, especially in his part of the state. I think he had all the high schools in his part of the state on a regular schedule to do it every year. I dealt with it one year and had 2 schools try to participate and it about overwhelmed me.

RIP Ken.

I went to ETSU with a fellow that knew Ken really well. He's the one that told me. Anyway, this fellow a few years ago bought a .50 caliber pistol. I asked him what he wanted with a gun like that and was told, "this gun will kill anything on earth."

A year or so after that I saw Ken at the TAPS convention and I asked him about the other fellow's gun. He said, "I told him to not be a p**** and put the 500 grain powder in it, but he said 300 was all he could handle."
