The young man beheaded by ISIS was a Croatian surveyor. A friend of mine (now back in the States) was working in Basra Iraq for awhile and actually interviewed this young man for a position they had open on the project.

I did read about that. The article I saw mentioned he was a "gas and oil surveyor". They weren't clear if that meant a real land surveyor type or more of a gas and oil geologist out surveying (as in examining) the terrain for possible signs of gas and oil deposits.
