For those not receiving news from NZ on the tragic earthquake the news is bloody grim.

The after shock tremors now running into the hundreds! Water supply is down to 50% of the city.

There are now over 100 confirmed dead, this number not including 90 missing international students studying english before attending university who were studying in a building that pancaked and has been left by specialist rescuers from NZ, US, Japan, Singapore and of course OZ at the present, as it was confirmed that there tragically are no survivors. . Infact, there are reported over 200 plus missing persons.

Considering the population of Christchurch those living on the fault line on the west coast of US must be aware that a fault slip will cause catastrophic destruction, devastation and loss of life even though both New Zealand and US have realised for a long time that the populated areas were found to be built near fault lines and have subsequently increased structural building requirements . It must be remembered that the he NZ buildings are no where near as tall as those constructed in the US. Sewer is now non existent, the central business area is a no go zone for all, apart from those involved in now respectfully removing the dead.

Please spare a short time remembering all those affected and especially all those involved in volunteering their service, including our NZ brother surveyors risking their lives monitoring building movement and countless bridge deformations.

It's a very unfortunate and sad event, most definitely. I had the opportunity to spend a summer in college between Australia and New Zealand, and it turned out to be the best summer of my life. I found Australians and the Kiwis to be wonderful people, and it's sad that we don't hear more about the relief efforts here in the States.

RADU - Do you know of any reliable relief organizations where the majority of the money would go to the recovery efforts? Please let me know.

Here's the most recent collection of pics I could find. 147 of them, and only a few are duplicates. After viewing them, I know I had a lot better understanding of just how terribly devastated that city is.

That eqviewer is an invaluable resource for those in the affected area looking for help or services. What a great system.
