Just curious to know if anyone out there uses this software or has used it in the past. We are looking at it to map some very basic things were horizontal accuracy does not need to be very tight at all, even by GIS standards and vertical will not even be looked at. We are having a demo next week from our local Trimble dealer, but I would rather have some feed back from actual users before then.
Thanks in advance.
If I understand the software correctly it is only capable of storing data to the cloud. Typically this would mean your handheld GNSS device would either need a constant WiFi connection or have a built-in modem with a cellular data plan.
Also, be certain to look at how you create your data collection template. If you are trying to match this to your own or a client's geodatabase make sure there is a conversion tool or a way to import the schema/features classes/domains and coded values, or there may be shortcomings.
It also appeared that the export capabilities are very limited. The only Esri related export seemed to be an ArcGIS XML file.
If I had a project like this I would look at Esri ArcPad, Esri ArcGIS for Windows Mobile with possible use of Esri ArcGIS Online or Leica's Zeno Field (same as ArcPad, but allows you to store GNSS statistics) or Leica's Optim software.
I understand all that. We are looking to run this on our phones. The locations of the things we are looking to locate do not have to be that accurate. The size and type of things we are going to locate are large or specific enough that if you were within 10-20 feet of them, you would be able to find them. We do not have any standard forms/templates set up and we are the client, so there is no matching to any standard.
I am the only one in the company that has any type of data collection/GIS background, so I figured this is a pretty simple way to get rather non computer literate employees to be able map things easily.
We are looking at ultimately having about 10 people using this, so purchasing handhelds for 10 people and purchasing ESRI software and trying to train everyone how to download and process data seems a bit cumbersome when our ultimate goal is to get the data to Google Earth to be viewed by managers in the office.
TerraFlex sounds like it would be a good fit since you are not consuming the data in an Esri platform.
