Love it or hate it, GIS exists, and surveyors are (or should be) involved one way or another.
FYI, a very useful resource for technical information relating to GIS and cartography is GIS Stack Exchange.
Like the many other Stack Exchange sites (and Surveyor Connect) it's an active and high quality site. Unlike Surveyor Connect, casual chit-chat is discouraged.
