I am going to try and track my quadcopter with a robot and was wondering what I should try to use on the copter for the target.
Any suggestions that you think may work best?
Thanks.

Can you mount a 360 prism on the bottom?
That is an option but I was thinking if it was almost vertical or up to 1000 meters away if it would still be able to track.
Disco ball?
I'm thinking about a light weight active smart target type prism.
You might have to get a manufacturer involved to build you one.
They might even would want to sponsor such a test. If so, they might want to load your copter up with all manner of decals like a NASCAR entry. How cool would that be?!
1000 meters is a pretty long shot ain't it?
For the distance, I guess it would depend on the gun and how far it will track. Can your robot normally handle 1000m? Mine can't. But for any type of 360 prism, if you mount it vertically, you're going to have problems when it's near vertical. I guess mounting it horizontally may be a better option, since it's going to be above the gun and you may be able to see a piece of the prism from any angle. But it raises the question at how vertical can your gun turn? My robot has a handle above the scope that would prevent tracking at about 10-15 degrees and up.
What is the payload?
Couple of pounds?
Then anything active is out of the question, as is longe-range.
The Leica mini 360 is about your only option
