Why do we say "twice" instead of "Toose"?
Once, twoce, threece, fource
Toose would be inconsistent.
Worked at a place many years ago where a co-worker, Jean, answered to Toose or Toosie.?ÿ Her father had given a nickname at birth to all eight children.?ÿ Burr, Bugs, Sal, Skeet, Toose.

"Teen" comes from "ten," so thirteen evolved from "three and ten," etc.?ÿ Eleven and twelve are a little different, eleven coming from "one left" (after subtracting ten) and twelve from "two left" (after subtracting ten).
Why isn't 40 spelled fourty??ÿ Same problem with 50.
