One thing I love about this site is how we all can learn something new on a regular basis.?ÿ My use of the word "thalweg" yesterday is an example.?ÿ Most surveyors never get near creeks and rivers in their day to day work, let alone need to understand specific terms that apply.?ÿ We also find ourselves learning from the non-surveying threads that help to keep this site active and fun.
Two days ago my buddy who is working on my old L2 Gleaner combine sent me a text message explain that he was going to need to create a heim or two for the work he is doing on the header.?ÿ I puzzled for quite a bit trying to determine what word might have been intended as I knew of no such mechanical item called a heim.?ÿ Dang, you can find anything on the internet!?ÿ Once I saw what a heim is and how it makes for a very specific solution to a specific problem, I knew what he meant.
Prior to this the only heim I knew was Dr. John Heim.?ÿ He has spent the past ten years as Executive Director of the Kansas Association of School Boards.?ÿ He recently took a new position as top dude with the National School Boards Association after the organization imploded a couple of months ago and they were in need of a new Executive Director as soon as possible.?ÿ John is a great guy with a great personality and a great skill at working with politicians.?ÿ I will miss him here, but NASB now has a great leader.

My first thought, HC was that someone had misspelled "hame."
I cleaned out my storage unit a month ago and just sent my nephew some old family harness with a couple of oak hames and bridles with blinders.
P.S. I see that SurveyorConnect thinks "hame" is a misspelling, but so is "heim."

Off topic, but with regards to the above captioned quote, I just learned more about linear regression than I ever had before. This site is truly remarkable. ?????ÿ
Maybe it's Haim!

Not seeing that on my end. I suspect it is your browser's spell checker.
@wendell Yep, it was my Firefox browser. Being an old phart, I assumed that the spell checker was SC not my browser; sorta like a banned words list.
Gene, does your spellcheck try to start your surname with a C?
@holy-cow I'm a touch typist so I have auto-fill turned off (except for texts on my phone). The spell check just inderlines my last name in red ink.
Ah, I know 'em well!?ÿ Had to replace the stock ball joint on the pitman arm on my Jeep Wrangler with a heim joint to eliminate a steering wobble.?ÿ Heim joints are rare on stock vehicles because they don't last as long as ball joints but are necessary on lifted Jeeps to allow more articulation than stock.?ÿ They're also called "Johnny Joints", a specially manufacturer, that have zerks and are rebuildable.

tell him to check some of the various diesel fab, trail fab & rock crawling fabrication web sites. they make them in all sorts of rod end diameters. I never could get into the rock crawling stuff myself but I had buddies who were & it was intriguing. one of them some what local here in NC was Barnes4WD and they just did a cyber monday sale best I recall (spam email notified me). Might just be what he needs
