As in I nearly Van Gogh'ed myself this afternoon.
I was hacking my way into a privet thicket to set a pin that the original surveyor never set. I swung the machete from my weak side (left to right with the right hand) at a branch that was nearly horizontal. It was an awkward cut in tight quarters and I got the angle of the blade wrong. It skipped off the branch, caught another branch, flexed the blade sideways, broke my grip, and boomeranged back at me. Even though I was swinging left to right, it bounced back and caught me on the left ear after it flew out of my hand. Thankfully it hit me flat instead of on either edge. It was like being hit in the ear with a flat board. Scared me silly but not even a drop of blood was shed.
I saw a guy do something similar; cutting devils club, going up a steep slope. Luckily, he was wearing a hard hat, or he would've Van Gogh'd himself....
That poster: RADAR, sure is a swell guy
I was reading along, and thought you was gonna say a vine got wrapped around your ear and wouldn't let go. Hate wandering thru vines, they catch on everything. Glad you missed your ear with the sharp part of the blade!!
And now you know...............................the rest of the story.
Could be worse, you could have eunuch'ed yourself!
:scream:

That's right Fiskars looper or if it's too big for the looper then use a Fiskars axe or pocket saw in tight quarters.
Von Gock........not Van Go
I use machetes all the time, but they can sure be dangerous. I once saw a guy pull his machete out of the sheath with his thumb on the end, and cut his thumb to the bone. I came very close to doing a similar thing once, but I caught myself before it happened.
I have been cut sharpening a machete more times than I have ever come close to injuring myself while using one.
Great way to build up blisters.
