That would also make a good H&S video, re Tom Foolery.

Somebody would die. If I had one ounce of life left in me, the prankster would soon have none whatsoever.

After lopping the head off of snakes, I usually would display them under my tripod for the chainmen to find it waiting for them.
They could not scramble away fast enough thru thickets full of briar and bramble and into the water and down embankments to get away from a headless snake.

Had a job once that was chock full of rattlers. We probably saw a half dozen or more every day before the sun got high. None of us were particularly afraid of them, but we all had a healthy respect for what they are capable of.

Something we noticed was that on flat ground with little cover around the snakes invariably attempted to head for cover. I'm going to guess they only coil and strike if you either surprise them while they're napping or corner them.

About the third time three of came upon one on the trail one of the guys pulled out his plumb bob and tried to spear the snake. While we were never quick enough to get one it became such a pastime I would carry my plumb bob in my hand while we were tromping around. Quite a sight to see three surveyors all dancing around stabbing their plumb bobs in the dirt.

We got a fourth hand for the last couple of days on the job. The "newbie" said he wasn't particularly afraid of snakes but couldn't believe we were seeing that many. Blaine, CO OK is full of them.

By noon we had see 7 or 8 good size rattlers. We only had one chance to play "snake stab" that morning. As we ate lunch the new guy noted, "You all are f*cking crazy!"

When I was in high school a friend had an old VW Bug, the kind where you had to lift the hood (trunk lid?) to get to the gas cap.?ÿ We had been hunting one day and killed a kinda big (+/- 4 feet) rattler.?ÿ We threw it into the trunk to carry home and skin.?ÿ We hunted the rest of the afternoon and forgot the snake was in the trunk.?ÿ We stopped on the way home to fill up with gas at, what was the norm then, a full service gas station.?ÿ We heard a blood curdling scream and saw the attendant leaving the vicinity at a high rate of speed.?ÿ THEN we remembered the snake.?ÿ I never saw that attendant again.
