Some of you may recall last Aug/Sept when I posted about the ugliest boat I've ever bought.
I told the seller that I couldn't take it home looking like that, it seemed unstable for the three hour ride home (and ugly, too!) His dad had modified the Marshall Sanderling to be a harbor cruiser in and about Salem Harbor, north of Boston. Luckily for me, the conversion was done with the intent of the boat being refitted back to a sailboat.
Here we are , ready to leave Lynn MA for the drive back to Brewster MA
Once we were back "on Cape" we stopped at my buddies place for some further demo, out came the sawzall's again, and here's the firs day results.
My goal was to get it in the water for a few weeks so I could a few hours sailing a catboat. But first I had to say goodbye to El Viento! My previous sailboat.
I got Meander water ready in about two weeks and launched her at Sesuit Harbor Dennis.
Just add Water!!!!
The deck did have a soft spot so I did have to replace some of the deck. At first I thought I could get away with just s small rectangle, and that I could just add a nice storage compartment in it's place!
But then I found that the hull was stuffed with Styrofoam and it was water logged from some drain holes the previous owner had unnecessarily installed!
Out came a larger piece and ALL the Styrofoam!
On went the glass etc. I found a few luan doors that were being given away by the side of the road so I was able to strip the pieces apart and was the facing to cover the hole, now measuring about 4' long and 2.5' wide.
I know that a bunch of you don't think that we have winter here on Cape Cod, or that they aren't all that severe, but when your backyard is your boat shop the weather plays havoc scheduling. Since I'm a sailor I try not to make concrete plans but instead work with vague intentions.
the winter dragged on, and the sailboat sat..... Then spring arrived and all I have been doing is sailboat work, when I'm here and have a few hours to spend!
And now she's ready for the water, minus name and numbers 🙂
A friend of mine is not gong to use his mooring over in Crows Pond Chatham so he is lending it to me. I am licensed and ready to sail now!
See you on the water! I'll be updating as the summer progresses, and I have already started my list for next year improvements!!

I'll have to come up sometime and crew for you. I've crewed Lightning & 470 classes on fresh water. But no experience on salt water.
BTW - nice job!
Great job Don, she looks like new. B-)
Very nice, Don
Fiberglass work outside "spring time" on cape cod?
Yikes
Bob
Glad you gave her a great name.
Also, glad you are spending your time in life on something important. I mean that.
Thanks y'all.. Even though she's an oldie (1968) she's a good one.
Let's go sailing!
Dave I, anytime, you too, Bob, F. and anyone else!
Dtp
🙂
She's beautiful - and I say that not being a sailor and knowing nothing about boats
Some of the debris after day 1
Don,
Just curious, why did you switch from Yamaha to Honda? B-)
The Yamaha that came with the boat was a ten horse wit all the bells and whistles. I was able to sell it for $1,500 and pick up a 5 horse for $600. I bought the boat, "as is" with the motor on that mount for $2,500. That $900 I made off the motor went to the door and grab rails from Marshall.
It was purely motivated by $'s 🙂
