Pretty interesting. I seem to recall years ago (when I was in college) that the Highway Patrol in Kern County, California was using total stations to collect data at collision sites (position of the car, the wheels, skid marks, etc) so they could put together a permanent depiction of the crash site for future investigation. I believe the idea was that once the scene was captured with pictures and basically topo shots, they could clear the accident sooner and restore normal traffic flow.
