Legal Drugs
That was funny, I'll try and remember that one.
I have an excellent Dentist.
Two shots of Novocain and I am good to go. My right side numbs better than the left. He says, "you felt that?" And I say, " keep drilling Doc, get it over with."
Root planing is worse Han fillings. No root canals, so far.
Legal Drugs
Drug me, then drag me to the dentist, and then I have to go home and sleep it off. I cannot think at all, after 4 or 6 shots of stuff, to make my teeeth quit hurting.

Legal Drugs
The stuff I had, was administered by an specialist and was IV fed.
But ya, there is alot of drugs out there that make fear/pain bearable and in fact a pleasure.
I can understand how people get addicted.
The key is understanding that not everyone is fearless.
Your mind will twist common experiences into phobias without you knowing.
It's much more common than you realize and does not make you less of a person.
Everyone has their demons.
Novocain doesn't work on my mom at all. You could understand why she wouldn't want to go.
Someday soon, destroying your teeth by drilling oversized holes will seem at crude and unnecessary.
They will just regenerate the bone from stem cells.
I had four wisdom teeth pulled (two impacted) with no anesthetic. Used hypnosis. I ate a full meal that night, no bruising or swelling. It worked for me anyway.
Many thanks to all!
The dentist office just called & he wants to spend an hour with me discussing the pros and cons. I am not in any particularly urgent discomfort right now so the visit will be next week.
I will keep you posted.
Brad, don't feel bad, I also hate going to the dentist, doctor, and I really don't like getting my haircut. With me its not a pain thing, I just don't like someeone messing with me. I do have a phobia for needeles also. I learned to just accept my phobias and just get stuff done. I will almost have panic attacks when just getting my teeth clean, but I always make it through it.
After you get this done, you will wonder why you suffered so long and waited so long. You will feel very good about yourself after that tooth is fixed.

> It sounds like you need an anti-anxiety drug more than you need general anesthesia. If your dentist can't give you that, try asking your doctor if he can prescribe something for very short-term use.

Your right on the money there Bill!!
Just last fall I got my wife out of back to back Mortons Nuroma surguries
She had such a terrible reaction to back to back surgery anesthetics that she's
been on anti-anxiety and anti-depressents for almost 6 months now.... foggy too
boot. It's been terrible. Her G.P. sits on the board of the hospital she had the
surgery at and is less than pleased with the reaction.
I was standing there in pre-op with her the second surgery and the "Gas Monkey" as
I have now come to call him (since he deserves little respect from me) was so rude
uncaring, disrespectful, and dismissive that I almost popped him one and drug my
wife out of there. It was only respect for the surgeons previous work that I didn't. Yet, now wish I had.
Make the thought of going under that much scarier than the process for me.
I'd rather go with all the pain meds possible and stay awake. I don't think I could
trust the profession any more after that.
We're struggling with not knowing if she'll be 100% again or not at this point.
I'm with you Bill!
Well, it only took about 444 days for the pain to wake me up again one night and to cause me to muster up the 'courage' to get old broken down #30 extracted yesterday.
All of your advice here really helped to put me at ease.
I went with the 1 happy pill the night before and 2 more one hour before the surgery.
Then IV SEDATION.
I was very comfortable the whole time. I was more or less awake and or dozing, but very comfortable and relaxed.
Thanks guys, now we can enjoy our vacation next week without worrying about a flare up from old #30.
Great...
Part of my pastrami and horseradish sandwich just went up my nose...
I'm gonna have to use that one.
