i ran across somebody wanting to sell some rascal 8 gps's. i think two of the rascal receivers and an old topcon. with 4 of the allen osborne antennas. does anybody know if these are worth messing with? i'm going to have to replace the batts in the receiver but i'm figuring i can do that myself. the setup is exactly like this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GPS-RASCAL-8-RECEIVER-W-ANT-RASCAL-OF-ALLEN-OSBORNE-/331222431352

but the ones i can get are a little more rugged and A LOT LOT cheaper.

so...what could one do with them?
-thank you for replies

Some or all of the Rascal antennas had a durability problem. As I recall, it was related to cracks in the internal antenna housing, and rendered them pretty much useless. If you know that the units you're looking at are functional and the price is low enough, then they might be worth considering.

These days old dual-frequency gear is really cheap, so I wouldn't bother with Rascals unless they were fully operational and less than $200 per unit.
