Tyler, A. Johnson, and Arthur had no VP. Lincoln had two. FDR had three. Nixon had two. I think Jackson had two. Ford's was appointed, not elected.
So I think the number is 47, with 46 elected.

Affirmative On Tyler, But There Are More?
Harry Truman served as VP for about 11 weeks in 1945.
One of the most unlucky VP's was Garret Hobart, of New Jersey.
He served as VP under McKinley, having held no previous House or Senate position. He was railroad executive, and an assemblyman and state senator, but more importantly, a power broker in NJ and Republican national convention politics.
McKinley's campaign manager asked him to be on the ticket and he acceopted, becoming one of McKinley's most trusted advisors.
He died in 1899, and in the 1900 election, Teddy Roosevelt was added to the ticket. Of course, Mckinley was shot, and Roosevelt become president, a position that would certainly come to Hobart had he lived.
Yup, I Missed Harry
