My first port call in Australia was in Perth in '85; I do remember Emu. After 89 days at sea that first Swan on draft tasted mighty fine.

You are quite likely correct.
If I had ever tried it myself I would bet on getting the name correct.

No offense.... none taken.
Yes, as an enlisted puke and I did my (near) mandatory consumption of plenty of both, but then there was one we called "animal beer" (as in "hey, this one has fish on it"... another yuck). We were the tail end of an era where the masses were convinced to drink questionable beer and coffee, mind numbing TV and formula pop songs... Not too many choices outside of industrial-generic-clone beers.... but how times have changed 😉
In my time as a youngster I have had Hamms, Falstaff, Jax, Pearl, Great Falls, Lone Star, Schlitz, Olympia, Tecate, Carte Blanca, even Budweiser and a few more. Carte Blanca is a decent beer.
Now I go with a few from Perdenales Brewing in Fredricksburg TX. (Lobo Negro is pretty good) an occasional Coors and am regularly trying new ones. I have learned that I have a taste for Porters and Stouts. Pilsners can be tasty also. I am relatively fond of Modelo Negro and Dos Equis Amber. For some reason I tend to gravitate to the darker more full flavored beers, ales, porters and stouts.

My tastes evolved into the DARK (Stout etc.) Beers/Ales back in the late 70s.
My current favorite (when I can find it), is Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout from Tadcaster England.

Tried to order a stout at a local establishment the other day. They were out of my usual, so the waitress offered that they had a "Mocha Milk Stout". Maybe it woulda been good, but I just couldn't order a beer with "mocha" and "milk" in the name. Things have gotten out of hand...

I really like "Cream/Milk" Stouts (generally), but I agree with what you are say'n.
The Local Brewery here in town whipped up a (very limited) batch of Oatmeal Cream Stout a couple of years ago (at my request), and it was REALLY GOOD. Unfortunately, that Brewer left town shortly thereafter, and I have had to settle for Guinness ever since (which is okay).

And I thought for all these past 50yrs that the worst thing to drink was Cherry Vodka.
Believe I will continue my pastime with a good ole Lager and apart from that an Old Milwaukee has never failed.
Our local brewpub has been having a bourbon barrel aged stout that I think is pretty awesome. The bourbon isn't overpowering and the stout itself is really good. High alcohol content, I'm usually only good for a pint or two.
my great aunt helen LOVED black label. she'd always have a couple cases warming next to the stove while she emptied out the cold case in the fridge. strangely enough, the one picture i can find of her she's drinking a hamm's. it must have been on a really good sale that week. and yes, it can get awfully hot in cass county, nebraska.
