Thinking of doing a west coast fishing trip as a part of checking off some bucket list plans, where are the killer spots?

I don't really go ocean fishing, but I have a bunch of friends that take trips out of San Diego down to the south for 5 days at a time. Seems they always come back with loads of fish (yellowtail, albacore, halibut, etc.)
