Perry - How is the sap flowing, is this year better than last.

Maybe you have given up on the syrup in favor of playing bluegrass or being a DJ.

Maple Syrup report

Having a pretty decent year after last year's dismal 51 gallons.

I am at 92 gallons of syrup and the grade just droped from Grade A Fancy to Grade A Medium just today, This means that there should still be plenty of sugaring weather left. Also, we are going back in to below-freezing temps, so this should prolong the season.

I'll try to post a vodeo of a sap bucket dripping I took yesterday. For those of you that know sugaring, this is a fast drip. Usually 1-2 drops per second is a good run.

edit: can't get the video working, here's my evaporator in action:

Thanks for the photos Perry, neat. I am glad that this season is going well. I heard the piece about Green Mountain Mainline on VPR a few days ago and was amazed at how big time they had gone. Wow, 98,000 taps RO , oil fueled burners etc, sort of takes the rustic feel our of the end product. I really like your setup, wood, buckets and a lot of hard work. It use to be that syrup was an important cash crop for the farmers at the end of winter giving them income they needed for the comming season, now it's big business.

I hope you end up with a bumper yield this year.

Good news for you. Hope the season is a long and profitable one. Are you selling any of it? I would love to buy a gallon or two. My son loves the stuff.
