they brought this American Crocodile into Ding Darling Refuge, but she keeps migrating over to the golf course community next door!!
Holy Moley!!
It looks like they integrated a T-Rex from Jurassic Park...
Watch your dogs and small cattle with that thing around. What were they thinking?
Yeah, not really sure why, either.. there had been ONE croc on the whole island, but she lived in the park, so it was no big deal. I guess they thought bringing one in would keep some kind of harmony, but they are pretty territorial. doubt this one will ever stay put in the park.. there are some really big gators around this golf course too. right across the street from us!!!
They're trying to find creative ways to get rid of those surveyors who are trying to keep the profession licensed and regulated.
"Who? Oh, Andy, yea, I haven't seen him since the crocodile moved in next door. Gosh, I wonder what happened to him?"
Ain't it great when do-gooders decide what is best for you and your family? Doesn't everybody want to live across the street from a genuine carnivore who views you like I view a piece of German chocolate cake? I suggest we turn pirhanas loose in their swimming pools.

> they brought this American Crocodile into Ding Darling Refuge...
This is the first I've heard of the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. I'm quite familiar with Lake Darling State Park which is only about 15 miles from my hometown.
Jay Norwood "Ding" Darling (October 21, 1876 - February 12, 1962), became a reporter for the Sioux City Journal in Sioux City, Iowa in 1900. He also worked for the New York Globe and the New York Herald Tribune but spent most of his career as an editorial cartoonist for the Des Moines Register in Des Moines, Iowa. He won two Pulitzer Prizes.
Darling was also a prominent conservationist. The Federal Duck Stamp program was his idea and he drew the design for the first stamp, issued in 1934.
From 1934 to 1935, Darling served as head of the U.S. Biological Survey (later the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service).
The J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island in Southwest Florida and Lake Darling State Park in southeast Iowa are both named for him.

Interesting, I didn't know about his Iowa connection! The majority of the island is wildlife preserve, actually.
People live here because of the wildlife, if you want to live in some sterile neighborhood, most of sanibel is not for you. The original croc that died last year was here naturally. My guess is that the new one was living in some less than stellar habitat, so they moved her here. I hope she stays, doubt she is any more dangerous than the gator population.
we actually do have a new policy about removing "nuisance" gators, since they were basically totally protected and were starting to be big enough to attack humans. most of the gators around now are less than 6 feet, while before you'd occasionally see them in the 12-14 foot range. now that is scary!

Nice white teeth, she must brush regularly!
Have a great weekend!

Are those American Crocs. as "bad" as the crocs. in Australia?
Alligators are kittens compared to them.

Test
Test. This fellow was in my yard yesterday. 200 feet from a divided 4 lane highway and showed no fear at all.
Turkey
Can't tell from the photo. Tom or Bearded Hen?
And Spring Turkey season is over or nearly over depending on your state.
Turkey
Jake. I believe.
There's a National Battlefield Park about a mile from my home so I'm sure he came from there. I see deer on a regular basis in my yard (1/2 acre) as many as 5 bucks at one time.

I had thought it might be a young'un. It just didn't look heavy enough to have any age.
