It dawned on me why Mayberry was so peaceful and quiet: nobody was married.
Here are the single people who come to mind: Andy, Aunt Bea, Barney, Floyd, Howard, Goober, Gomer, Sam, Ernest T. Bass, Helen, Thelma Lou, Clara.
In fact the only one married was Otis, and he stayed drunk.
How do you expect me to help you?
I'm married.
We have 10 children.
We are grateful, and happy.
I still love my wife.
Obviously something is going on here!
🙂

Nate:
There are more unmarried people in your household than married people.;-)
The same was true on The Beverly Hillbillies. Granny, Jed, Jethro, Elly Mae, Miss Jane, Sonny Drysdale, Jethro's mom (Aunt Kate) when she was on and all sorts of the visitors. The only ones married, and very unhappily at that, were Mr. and Mrs. Drysdale.
Yeah, Dave, and if they get married, we will make them move out! (Wink)
I am not into this "Live with the inlaws" (outlaws) stuff!
🙂

Wasn't that Jed's Cousin Pearl?
Same actress (Bea Benaderet) was Aunt Kate on Petticoat Junction and Green Acres.
Dagnabit. Durned experts on hillbillies. Yippers. I boinked the pooch on that one.
Bea was Cousin Pearl and Jethro's poor mother. Then the same TV producers put her in Petticoat Junction as Kate. Green Acres was supposed to be in the same neighborhood as Petticoat Junction near Hooterville and Pixley.

Aunt Kate? Your aging mind is mistaken it was Aunt Pearl. 😉
Papino, Hop-sing, and Hassie weren't married either.
Have a great weekend and keep them udders dry! B-)

Don't start about Hooterville, my heart still aches from the romantic and erotic fantasies with Doris Ziffel.....sigh

I also think that they had some large and comfy closets in the homes of Mayberry. Just sayin'
Here's Earl & Lester singing "Pearl, Pearl, Pearl", sang for the character Bea played on the show.

For you bluegrass aficionados, Howard Watts (aka Cedric Rainwater) is singing the "high lonesome" harmony on this cut.
