A local hospital has a full page ad in the newspaper bragging about their obstetrics department.?ÿ This includes photos of 17 babies born there in recent months along with their names and home town.?ÿ Pick the gender of each of the following names and imagine the variety of ways some of those names will be spelled by people who do not know what the parents thought was best.
Avery, Avett, Ayla, Banks, Baron, Barrett, Beau, Blakely, Brant, Brantley, Brevyn, Brooklynn, Brooks, Brooks (different kid), Bryer, Bryor, Knixley.
?ÿ
FYI, based on hair bows and such I am guessing that at least Avery, Ayla, Beau, Blakely and Knixley are girls.?ÿ No ready clues on the others.
My sister is a retired elementary teacher
?ÿShe gave up 30 years ago trying to guess how kids' names were spelled from the pronunciation and vice versa.
I'd say Beau is a boy. (Belle is girl?).
BTW, at high school there was a guy a couple of years ahead of us called Tracey. He played tennis, which I do, but never any good.
And when I worked on site years ago, one of the senior consultants was married to a woman called Brian. The explanation of why she had been named Brian was 100% logical and 100% could not be argued against it not being a woman's name. Unfortunately I can't remember what that explanation was.
A girl in Grandson's Kindergarten class is named Brie...I've resisted the urge to ask her parents why they named her after the cheese. Wife knows all the little kids names.
Back when we had Jameson every weekend we took him to wife's catholic relative's kid baptism. Irish priest asked me why we named him after the whiskey, Fr. Personality.
Cheesy name? It's not new. A local college has a PhD prof named Brie.
My brother had a dog named Brie of Camembert but he just called her Brie. They've got a few common names with different spelling too.
well, my right hand man (who should be here any minute now) is an avery...
i used to scorn the people who'd drive down the road with their entire brood's names stickered on the back window.?ÿ the especially large ones where all the kids' names start with the same letter were especially... precious.?ÿ i started noticing that, more often than not, "K" was the most frequent letter for such endeavors, and that many poor children were walking around with misspelled versions of perfectly good names for the sake of some cute game on their parents' part.
well, guess what i have now... in-laws named "kurtis" and "karly" (as well as a couple others).?ÿ my wife kate made me shut up about the sticker thing...
We have several large families in our church, one that had the stick figures on the back of the excursion.... 6 girls 1 boy. ?ÿOn one of the first sundays they started attending- when My son was about six yo, we parked behind them .... he says, ??THAT. ...is ?ÿA LOT of girls.?
?ÿ
On another note, the DOT here is now putting their project managers in The small all wheel drive SUVs - you might recall me mentioning it.... anyway, not long ago, one of them got pranked with the sticker family on the back.....?ÿ
always do a walk around...always...
Friends of mine had two children, Sydney and Cassidy.?ÿ One girl, one boy.?ÿ Guessing which name goes with which gender is silly.
Another young couple I know have two children, Morgan and Avery.?ÿ One girl, one boy.?ÿ Guessing time again.
I know some folks whose young'ns (one of each) are named Alex Lee and Jean Carroll. Everyone always gets it wrong. It helps to be around there house and listen to their nicknames... Lexi and Johnny.
Couple of my grandchildren confused people by their nicknames, not their given names.?ÿ Danielle preferred to be called Dani.?ÿ Andrew was known as Drew until his teen years when he decided Andrew was better.
"How to ensure no one knows your child's gender or how to spell their name"?ÿ?ÿ
The only way today is to not have any. Lest we be accused of disrupting the Human Traffickers.
