I was chatting with neighbors and a plumber who is working on their lawn sprinkler system. The topic of air compressor units and our local Cottonwood tree cotton issues. You need to constantly clean out the unit of the cotton; a shop vac, and at least once or twice a year lift out the fan and blow out the cotton from the inside of the unit.?ÿ
The plumber said you don't have to do any of that, simply go to the hardware store, get some nylon screen material and wrap the compressor.?ÿ
Head Slap!!!!
All these years messing with that unit!!!!!!
?ÿ
I guess I could have gone that route, but I've gone a little pro-active over the last 10 years.?ÿ I've taken up the torch to use Tordon on just about every cottonwood on the block.?ÿ
It started on a large cottonwood in the yard to the north.?ÿ It's roots were large and crept into my yard...?ÿ Being a rent house and me loathing the old biddy that owns the place, it made sense to me.?ÿ But I realized I had acquired a taste for cottonwood "blood".?ÿ Over the last few years I've turned into a "serial" tree killer.
Most of them have been along the street (and in the RW).?ÿ Pre-dawn walks with a corn knife and a jug of Tordon did them in.?ÿ I actually talked one tenant into letting me into his backyard to get to another tree.?ÿ He was moving (graduating) and by the time the tree actually died he was long gone.?ÿ There are still a couple of trees yet to go.
But I haven't killed recently.?ÿ I've developed a fear of being recorded by some mindless doorbell somewhere.?ÿ My desire to police the 'hood has been satisfied by live trapping the infernal nocturnal cats behind my garage.?ÿ I spirit them away in the back of my truck and drop them off behind the Piggly-Wiggly where the dumpster-diving is far more profitable.?ÿ I hum the song "Born Free" as I let them out of the cage...
Someday there will be a cable crime-documentary on the good-natured old gray haired guy on the corner that killed everything in sight.
?ÿ
Reminds me of the mother of one of my high school buds.?ÿ She would trap squirrels,?ÿ Drive a couple of miles and release them.?ÿ They most likely beat her back home.?ÿ Probably hauled off the same squirrel fifty times.
So many trees, so little time.
My nice neighbors allowed some junk trees to sprout like weeds, I finally got them to kill the boxelder, what a mess that thing was. They are moving and the new owner wants to get rid of a some more plants,,,,,,,I've very happy with that decision.?ÿ
Around here it's mulberry trees.?ÿ I keep cutting off one that wants to grow next to the house foundation, and haven't gotten vigorous enough about my attacks.?ÿ My wife cut several out of the ornamental hedge at the back of the lot. And heaven help your car if there are berries in the neighborhood for the birds to eat before roosting in the maple near your house.
@bill93?ÿ
My tree guy said the suckers here are Elm, I cut them when they show up.
