On a side note here...The article Williwaw posted the link to above brings up a subject that a lot of folks ignore...worn out guns.
I was in the market for another Colt Model 1911 a few years back. I was appalled at what some people were trying to sell. I realize that firearms occupy a "prized" position in our society, but they eventually wear out. And if they can't be repaired; they should either be used for parts, or destroyed. A substandard firearm is dangerous. A lot of advertised "good deals" need to be approached with caution.
Here's a quote from the article:
"After twenty years of strangers shooting, carrying ,clearing, loading, shooting, hammering tent pegs and occasionally cleaning them, the M9s in service today are in bad shape. Once the armory guy cleared an M9 and handed it to me. It was so loose it felt like duct tape and prayer were the only things holding it together. The tolerances were so bad I could send the locked back slide into battery by merely rocking the pistol once from back to front."
