I've been working with my cousin to do some family genealogy work.?ÿ Has anyone used Autocad to draw up a family tree??ÿ I've seen some templates online, but most seem to be proprietary software and pay to use.?ÿ ?ÿ

I'm open to any suggestions.?ÿ I'd like to make something that is useable by non cad users, though.?ÿ Maybe Excel or PDF ??ÿ ?ÿAnyone ever put something like that together??ÿ?ÿ

My thought was to make a Facebook page and invite family members... upload a family tree document and ask them to fill in any blanks or add to it.?ÿ?ÿ

If I were a coder I might consider creating a front end for a robust database. There are already tons to choose from. I am just beginning to explore using the tools from 23 and me and ancestry DNA.

Perhaps someone has already used one of these??ÿ

Have you tried using Word? They have a flowchart that is easy to make.

Family Tree Maker works great and makes great charts.

Family Tree Maker - if you get a membership with Ancestry.com to aid your research, the program will integrate with your Ancestry membership and cross link to other people's family trees. It can be helpful in hunting down an elusive relative. Metaphorically speaking.

GRAMPS is a free, open source genealogy software that would probably suit your needs. It's essentially a database manager tailored to genealogy. Since it's free, anyone that wants to edit your file could install it to use. It's available for Windows, Mac and Linux/Unix.

I created an AutoCAD drawing containing just the names and birth/death dates for 31 generations of my family. Its kind of nice for looking at the big picture, but certainly doesn't contain much detailed info. I use Ancestry.com for that...
