Seattle To Maui

Yea yea... show off. 😛

We're actually utilizing SEA-TAC in July to fly to Maui. For some reason I saved $414 flying out of there VS PDX (Portland). So it was worth the drive for us. Now if RADAR will let us park our car at his house...I'll save another $120. 😉

I have a similar situation.

Usually Sacramento (SMF) is close enough in price that the savings wouldn't be worth the drive and parking costs.

Oakland is about 2 hours, SFO is 2 to 2.5, San Jose is 3 or 4.

I could save $80 by flying out of San Jose (Southwest) but I would spend that in gas getting there in back. My sister lives in San Jose so there wouldn't be any parking cost or lodging cost.

You bet! I'll even give you a ride to the Airport; it's the the least I could do for all the good things you do for everyone else. Just let me know when..:-)

Cheers,

Radar

Bigger airports don't mean lower costs.

A number of years ago, when I wiorked on the PLS Exam, I used to fly up to Monterey for meetings.

From Temecula, I used Ontario (CA) Airport.

Once, I tried flying out of LAX because of some scheduling issues. LAX-MRY was $50 MORE expensive each way than ONT-LAX-MRY! Even the Southwest Ticket Agent couldn't belive it.

no secret site to use to find cheapest fares - we fly 3-4 times/yr, and even tho we have mileage rewards with Delta and USAirways, we shop Orbitz and Kayak as a start just to see what's out there. Southwest airlines does NOT show up on these sites, you need to check their website to see if they may be an option - departure city and destination are key factors as to which airlines to choose. even with codesharing, there are times you may find it just as fast, and much cheaper to fly to a city further from your destination and drive the extra hours. we're doing that in a few weeks: flying to MSP and driving 7 hours to the U.P. rather than the same time spent on 3 flights for more than 2x the $$ on flights. it takes time to pick a place to go...:-D
