Yes. Result of the historic Midwest floods. A tropical storm developed and?ÿ is wandering off the coast. The expected surge is preventing normal flow of the river. Basic laws of physics. Brief crest is predicted at this time but nothing is predictable nowadays. There are mandatory evacuations now for areas downriver from the city. It's a new game because of climate change and nobody knows the rules.?ÿ

That??s a terrible situation. We??re taking the family down the the Florida panhandle next week for a few days. Already the beaches are somewhat safe at best. I??m sure this weather system won??t help.
I just wonder if we as a nation will ever undo the tremendous damage the Corp??s levee system has done to the natural river system? The writing is on the wall.?ÿ
The fishing industry down there is taking it on the chin with the drop in water salinity due to all the fresh water that's being discharged from the upstream flooding.?ÿ?ÿThe flood control system benefit the population centers with flood control but it has its casualties also.?ÿ?ÿThe oyster and brown shrimp harvest numbers are already down significantly.?ÿ This latest storm will only aggravate the situation.?ÿ
Good fresh U.S. shrimp are already hard enough to get up here.?ÿ It will probably be a while before I have a mess of etouffee again.?ÿ
